I’d like to share a poem I wrote two months ago about my perspective on the human ego. I’ve also included a well-known proverb from where I’m from. It’s about an elephant and an ant. I’ll provide the original version in my native language, along with English and simplified Chinese translations. If the translations sound a bit odd, I hope you’ll still get the gist of it. Since it’s a translation, it sometimes falls short of conveying the original message and feelings. I hope you understand.

我想分享一首我两个月前写的一首诗，表达了我对人类自我的看法。此外，我还附上了一则我家乡流传甚广的谚语，讲的是大象和蚂蚁的故事。我将提供母语的原文，以及英文和简体中文的译文。如果译文听起来有些别扭，希望你们仍能领会其要旨。毕竟是翻译，有时难免无法完全传达原文的信息和情感，还望见谅。

Semut dan Gajah

Dari mata ku lihat
Manusia sangat sombong
Di hati mereka rapuh
Tak mampu mengakui dosa

Buruknya, cela orang lain jelas terlihat
Meski dia berada jauh di seberang lautan
Tak pikir dan peduli dia
Dengan kekurangannya sendiri

Mudah sekali mencari kesalahan orang
Giliran dituju ke dirinya dia naik pitam
Apa susahnya mengaku
Oh ku lupa wahai Tuhanku ego itu ada

Ingat kata pepatah
Semut diujung laut kelihatan
Sedangkan gajah di pelupuk mata dihiraukan

The Ant and the Elephant

Through my eyes I see
Humans are so arrogant
Yet their hearts are fragile
Unable to admit their sins

Sadly, others’ faults are plain to see
Even if they’re far across the sea
They neither think nor care
About their own shortcomings

It’s so easy to find fault with others
But when the spotlight turns to them, they fly into a rage
What’s so hard about admitting it?
Oh, I forgot, O my Lord, that ego exists

Remember the saying
An ant at the edge of the sea is visible
While an elephant right before one’s eyes is ignored

蚂蚁和大象

透过我的双眼，我看见
人类是如此傲慢
然而他们的内心却如此脆弱
无法承认自己的罪过

可悲的是，他人的过错却一目了然
哪怕远在海的彼岸
他们却既不思考也不在意
自己的缺点

指责他人是如此容易
但当聚光灯转向他们时，他们却勃然大怒
承认过错究竟有多难？
啊，我忘了，我的主啊，自负是存在的

请记住这句箴言：
海边的蚂蚁清晰可见
而眼前的象却被视而不见
